Failure to update using the proper procedure may cause damage to your system. The recommended method is to run startup.nsh file to update all FW components in proper order. User also can update BIOS using one of the following methods. A. Using sysfwupdt utility in UEFI environment 1. Unzip the contents of the update package and copy all files to the root directory of a USB flash drive 2. Insert the USB flash drive into available USB port on the system to be updated 3. Power on the server and load the uEFI shell. Press to terminate autostart. 4. Run UpdBIOS_DNP.nsh script. After BIOS update file is loaded into the staging area, the server will be powered off with the system status LED blinking green/orange and the blue ID LED is solid on for about 10 minutes. During this time the system reprogramms the BIOS under control of PFR. 5. Once the BIOS update process has successfully completed, the system will reset automatically couple of times and finaly boot. The whole process takes around 15 minutes. B. Using BMC Web Console 1. Open BMC Web Console and login 2. Go to Configuration > BIOS/IFWI Firmware Update 3. if desired select "Recovery" and/or "Reset Immediately" checkboxes 4. Choose the File (XXX_UpdateCapsule_prd.bin) 5. Click "Upload" 6. BIOS will be updated on the next reboot (if "Reset Immediately" checkbox was not selected). 7. Do *NOT* interrupt the BIOS POST during the first boot. ================================================================================ SVN_BYPASS Jumper ================================================================================ Platform does not allow flashing PFR-controlled PCH capsule with the security version number (SVN) lower then the SVN of the curently running FW. When BIOS SVN Downgrade jumper is moved from its default pin position (pins 1–2), it allows the BIOS firmware to be downgraded to a lower SVN. To use the BIOS SVN Downgrade jumper, perform the following steps: 1. Power down the server module. 2. Remove the server module from the chassis. 3. Remove the riser assembly #2 from the server module. (See the Intel® Server D50DNP Family Integration and Service Guide for details). 4. Move the BIOS SVN Downgrade jumper (J14) from pins 1–2 (default) to pins 2–3. 5. Reinstall the server module in the chassis. 6. Power on the server module and boot into the UEFI Shell. 7. Update the BIOS with the required image using the "-recovery" switch on the sysfwupdt.efi command line. Ex.: sysfwupdt.efi -u xxx.bin -recovery 8. After BIOS update is successfully completed, power down the server module. 9. Remove the server module from the chassis. 10. Move the BIOS SVN Downgrade jumper (J14) back to pins 1–2 (default). 11. Reinstall the riser assembly #2. 12. Reinstall the server module in the chassis. 13. Power on the server module. During POST, press to access the BIOS setup utility to configure and save desired BIOS options. ================================================================================ IMPORTANT NOTES ================================================================================ 1. VT-D is enabled by default in this BIOS release. If you are still using Windows Server 2019, please disable VT-D and Extended APIC or enable “Limit CPU PA to 46 bits” to avoid BSOD under Windows Server 2019: Advanced ->Integrated IO Configuration -> Intel VT for Directed I/O (VT-d) Advanced -> Processor Configuration -> X2APIC Advanced -> Processor Configuration -> Limit CPU PA to 46 bits VT-D and X2APIC are bundled, please disable X2APIC first when you want to disable VTD. 2. Starting from BIOS version R01.01.0001 PFR Lock is enabled by default. User need to add "UpdateNvram" parameter during BIOS update to load the new default value of PFR lock. Alternatively manually set PFR Lock to Enable in BIOS setup after BIOS update. 3. Starting from BIOS version R01.01.0001 the default value for the "Volatile Memory Mode" parameter has changed from 2LM (2LM is removed) to 1LM due to silicon code change. User must add parameter “UpdateNvram” when updating BIOS from a version lower than R01.01.0001. 4. User must add parameter "-recovery" when updating BIOS to the version with higher SVN, otherwise online update will fail. 5. R01.02.0001 is the first version to support both Intel(R) Xeon(R) 4th and 5th Gen Scalable procesors. The Security Version Number (SVN) was incremented to 3 to differentate this release from previous versions and to prevent accidental BIOS downgrade. If FW downgrade is required, refer to the SVN_Bypass Jumper section. The "-recovery" and "UpdateNvram" parameters are required to update from R01.01.0005 or older versions. 6. Incremented SVN in BIOS version R01.02.0001 prevents the main BIOS capsule and the BIOS customization capsule to be updated in one session. Update the main BIOS code first, reboot the system and after that update the BIOS customization capsule file. 7. BIOS version R01.02.0001 enables "Manual Commit S3M FW CFR" and "Manual Commit Pcode/Ucode CFR" options. Users need to add "UpdateNvram" parameter during BIOS update to load the new default values. Alternatively manually set default vlaue of "Manual Commit S3M FW CFR" or "Manual Commit Pcode/Ucode CFR" in BIOS setup after BIOS update. 8. BIOS version R01.02.0001 added "Auto" option for the "C1 Auto Demotion" parameter as default. Users need to add "UpdateNvram" parameter during BIOS update to load the new default value for the "C1 Auto Demotion" parameter or manually set "C1 Auto Demotion" to "Auto" after BIOS update. 9. BIOS version R01.02.0001 removed "10Mhz in I3C mode" option for the "I3C Clock Frequency" parameter. Users need to add "UpdateNvram" parameter during BIOS update to load the new default value for the "I3C Clock Frequency" parameter. 10. BIOS version R01.02.0001 added "Auto" option for the "SGX PRM Size" parameter as default. Users need to add "UpdateNvram" parameter during BIOS update to load the new default value for the "SGX PRM Size" parameter or manually set "SGX PRM Size" to "Auto" after BIOS update. 11. 5th Gen Intel(R) Xeon(R) Scalable procesors A0/R0 are not supported starting from BIOS R01.02.0001 (9535D03). 12. BIOS R01.02.0003 contains the new secure boot components KEK and DB for Microsoft 2025. KEK – Microsoft Corporation KEK 2K Certificate Authority (CA) 2023*. DB – Windows UEFI CA 2023*, Microsoft UEFI CA 2023* and Microsoft Option ROM UEFI CA 2023*. Please be aware that new secure boot keys are necessary for Windows 2025. To update the new DB/KEK keys, previous secure boot keys stored in BIOS must be removed. The user must include the "UpdateNvram" parameter when flashing BIOS R01.002.0003 image. 13. User must add the parameter 'UpdateNvram' in the BIOS script before performing a firmware downgrade from R01.02.004 to lower versions; otherwise, TCC events may be recorded in SEL. Note: The "UpdateNvram" parameter will reset all previously configured BIOS settings to their default values ================================================================================ KNOWN ISSUES/WORKAROUND ================================================================================ 1. Once the "Promote Warning" option is enabled, please do not use the Samsung Memory with date code WW34 2021. 2. On systems with 5th Gen Intel(R) Xeon(R) Scalable Processor and Compute Express Link (CXL) device installed, the "CPU C State Control" value must be set to "C0/C1 state" to disable "Package C State" support.
