CONTENTS ======== 1) Xircom CompactCard Ethernet 10 Characteristics 2) Release Notes 3) Known Limitations 4) Trouble Shooting 5) Xircom Customer Support 1) XIRCOM COMPACTCARD ETHERNET 10 CHARACTERISTICS ============================================== This release of the Xircom CompactCard Ethernet 10 supports the following features: -10Base-T network support -Full suite of Windows CE drivers for the following versions: -Windows CE 2.x -Pocket PC -Handheld PC2000 -Installation software for configuration and setup of the CompactCard Ethernet 10 2) RELEASE NOTES ============= This release contains Windows CE drivers and installation software for the CFE-10 and includes support for MIPS 3000, MIPS 4000, Hitachi SH3, Hitachi SH4, and StrongARM processors. This release contains translated online documentation and installation software for the following languages: English French German Italian Spanish Chinese (Simplified) Japanese Korean 3) KNOWN LIMITATIONS ================= -Host PC's running Windows 95 OSR2 cannot active sync after entering suspend mode. If the machine goes into suspend, it will need to be reset in order to active sync with the handheld. 4) TROUBLE SHOOTING ================ Symptom: Unable to active sync you handheld to a Windows 95 OSR2 host machine when running WINS resolution on both the host and handheld. Resolution: You must check "Use DHCP for WINS Resolution." This is located under network properties control panel-->TCP/IP Properties-->WINS Configuration tab. Be sure the server is running WINS as well. Symptom: Setup displays message stating one or more network adapters must be installed to continue on Windows 2000 even though an adapter is installed. Resolution: Close setup and run again. Symptom: Error occurs when trying to uninstall CFE-10 "The files ARP.DLL, DHCP.DLL and NDIS.DLL are either read only or in use and cannot be deleted." Resolution: 1) Physically remove the CFE from the slot 2) Manually delete the files CFE.DLL and XCEPOWER.CPL from the \Windows directory. Symptom: After installing the software to the handheld device, an error dialog is displayed on the handheld indicating that the software is not compatible with the device. Resolution: A bug in the Windows CE Application Manager may cause it to choose the wrong CAB file. As a result, files for the wrong version of Windows CE will be installed on the handheld device. The .INI (i.e. \ENGLISH\CABS\CFE.INI) file that is passed to the Application Manager can be edited to remove CAB files that the user does not need. Follow these steps: 1. If the handheld device was not connected when the CompactCard Setup was run, connect the device and re-run setup. If the problem persists, go to Step 2 2. Cancel out of the Xircom Setup Application 3. Launch the Mobile Devices Application 4. In the Tools menu select Application Manager 5. Select the Xircom CompactCard software from the list and click the Remove button 6. Close the Application Manager 7. From a DOS prompt or using the Windows Explorer, delete the directory \Program Files\Xircom\Cabs 8. Copy the contents of the CompactCard CD-ROM to a directory on your hard drive 9. Using Windows Explorer, change the file attributes of the file ..\ENGLISH\CABS\CFE.INI to Archived instead of Read Only 10. Determine the configuration of your handheld device by doing the following: 1. In the Mobile Devices Application open the properties window by right-mouse clicking on the device. Note the Device Type and Processor Type. 2. On the handheld device launch the System Properties Control Panel application (Start\Settings\System properties) and note the version of Windows CE. 11. Edit the CFE.INI file and remove all the CAB file entries from the Cab files line except for the CAB file that matches your system. For example, if your handheld device is a Palm-PC with a MIPS R4000 processor and Windows CE 2.1, you need the "cfe_ppc_R4_21.MIPS.CAB" cab file. 12. Save and close the modified CFE.INI 13.
