This readme contains information for the Flash Update/Recovery Utility and the RAID Firmware Diskette. Flash Update/Recovery Utility 324_FUU_FRU.EXE 08/24/2000 This software is copyrighted, and may only be installed and used in accordance with the license that accompanies it. These files support the following Intel products: Intel(r) Server RAID Controller U2-1 (SRCU21) Intel(r) Integrated RAID Controller Reference Design SMU22R Intel(r) Integrated RAID Controller KMU21 Contents ======== This package contains the flash update/recovery utilities. The following files are included: FUU.EXE version 3.07 FRU.EXE version 4.04 DIT.EXE version 3.07 FINDDISK.EXE HIMEM.SYS VDISK.SYS AUTOEXEC.BAT CONFIG.SYS flashio/DOS4GW.EXE flashio/FRU.BAT flashio/FRU.EXE flashio/REBOOT.COM flashio/RMFLASH.EXE Installation ============ The Flash Update Utility is used to update the firmware of the RAID adapter but requires that the firmware already on the RAID adapter be in a functional state. The Flash Recovery Utility is used to update the firmware of a non-functional RAID adapter. For the Flash Recovery Utility to work, the RAID adapter must be placed into update mode, normally accomplished by setting a jumper on the RAID adapter. Refer to the User's Manual for more information on setting the RAID adapter into update mode. Both utilities require a separate diskette for the RAID adapter firmware, in a file called RAID.BIN. This file must be downloaded separately. 1.Create a bootable, formatted DOS floppy. This can be accomplished from a Microsoft Windows 95/98 machine by typing "format a: /s" from a command prompt. 2.Double-click on the file 324_FUU_FRU.EXE. When prompted for a location to expand the files to, be sure to select an EMPTY directory. The directory C:\FUU_FRU is selected by default. 3.Copy the extracted files to the bootable, formatted floppy disk. 4.If you intend to use the Flash Recovery Utility, you will need to turn off the system with the RAID adapter, place the RAID adapter in update mode by setting the I/O Processor in reset. If the RAID adapter is currently functional, you should be able to use the Flash Update Utility without putting the RAID adapter in update mode. 5.Boot the system with the Flash Update/Recovery Utility diskette. 6.Select the appropriate option, Flash Update or Flash Recovery, based upon the status of the RAID adapter from step 4. 7.When prompted, insert the RAID adapter firmware diskette. 8.Reboot the system when the update or recovery process is completed. Note: If you receive an ERROR CODE 16 message when using the Flash Recovery Utility, it is likely that the RAID adapter is not in update mode. Either correctly place the adapter in reset mode, or use the Flash Update utility. Fixes/Update ============ 06/30/2000 The FRU (Flash Recovery Utility) version 4.04 has been updated in order to allow flashing through bridges. ==================================================================================== RAID Firmware Diskette 324_RAID_FW.EXE 08/24/2000 This software is copyrighted, and may only be installed and used in accordance with the license that accompanies it. These files support the following Intel product: Intel(r) Server RAID Controller U2-1 (SRCU21) Attention! ========== The latest O/S drivers (OSM's) from Global Build Version 3.24 MUST also be updated on the target O/S AFTER updating the firmware. Please update the drivers AFTER updating the firmware. It is also recommended that the latest O/S Utilities be updated after installing the firmware and drivers. Contents ======== This package contains the RAID firmware code. The following file is included: raid.bin version 3.23 readme.txt (This file.) Installation ============ The RAID firmware must be used with the Flash Update/Recovery Utilities. These utilities require the RAID adapter firmware on a separate diskette. These utilities must be downloaded separately. 1.Save the file RAID_FW.EXE in an empty directory. Double-clicking on this file will extract the necessary files to a:\. Be sure to have a blank, formatted floppy disk in the a:\ drive. 2.When prompted by the Flash Update/Recovery Utilities, insert the RAID adapter firmware diskette. 3.Reboot the system when the update or recovery process is completed.
