Release Notes: Intel® Server Management Pack Agent for Linux* OS Description: The Intel® Server Management Pack Agent for Linux* OS consists of three components: 1) BMC-Utility: to configure LAN Settings, Serial Over LAN(SOL) Settings, Default Channel Configuration and BMC Anonymous User Password Settings. 2) Intel(R) Server Agent v1.0: This provides SNMPv2c support to retrieve CPU and Memory data from OS. 3) RAID Agents: This provides SNMPv1/v2c support for RAID monitoring. 1.1 Supported Operating Systems The following Operating Systems are supported: * Red Hat* Linux* Enterprise 4 AS U4 - 32 bit and x86_64 * Red Hat* Linux* Enterprise 5 AS - 32 bit and x86_64 * SUSE* Linux* Enterprise Server 9 U4 - 32 bit and x86_64 * SUSE* Linux* Enterprise Server 10 U2 - 32 bit and x86_64 1.2 Supported Hardware The following hardware is supported by the Server Management Agent and BMC-Utility: * IPMI 2.0 Based Servers with BMC and iBMC * IPMI 1.5 Based Servers with BMC and mBMC Minimum requirement for target system will be: * Processor belongs to Intel® Pentium 4 Processor family or above (or) Intel Xeon® Processor Family or above 1.3 Supported Platforms S5500BC S5520UR S5500HCV S5520HC S5520SC S5000PAL S5000XAL S5000PSL SC5400RA S5000XVN S5000XSL S5000VSA S5000VCL S3000AHX S3000AHV S3000AH S7000FC4UR S3000SHX S3000SHV S3000SHL S3000AHC X38MLST S5400SF S5300SF 1.4 Installation The script install-smsagent.sh should take care of most common installation situations. Copy the entire folder "linuxagent" from DVD to a local folder in Linux* OS. The "linuxagent" folder is also present in %ProgramFiles/Intel/NGSMS in the systems where Intel® Server Management Pack version 3.5 is installed. Before installing the SMS agent in Linux*, complete the following configuration * Make sure that net-snmp RPM is installed in Linux* Server * In Red Hat* OS, make sure that net-snmp-utils RPM is also installed (specific to Red Hat only) * Make sure that the SELinux under firewall setting of Red Hat* OS is configured for disabled or permissive mode (specific to Red Hat only) * Configure the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf (/etc/snmpd.conf in case of SuSE 9) file as described below to allow read access to the OID subtree (enterprise).1.3.6.1.4.1 Enter the following line to allow readonly access to all OIDs with community string as public rocommunity public OR Remove or comment out the sections of snmpd.conf (Red Hat* OS provides the default configuration) file where security name, group, view names and access are configured to some default values and replace with the following configuration: # map the community name "public" into a "security name" # sec.name source community com2sec SMSUser default public # map the security name into a group name: # groupName securityModel securityName group SMSGroup v2c SMSUser # create a view to let the group have rights to: # name incl/excl subtree mask(optional) view SMSView included .1.3.6.1.4.1 # grant the group read-only access to the SMSView. # group context sec.model sec.level prefix read write notif access SMSGroup "" any noauth exact SMSView none none After the above configuration is completed, run the following commands under ./linuxagent/ chmod +x ./install-smsagent.sh ./install-smsagent.sh Mgmt-Server-IP COMMUNITY where Mgmt-Server-IP is the IP Address of the SCE Server and COMMUNITY is the community string used for SNMP communication The script has to be run with 'root' privilege. 1.5 Uninstallation The script uninstall-smsagent.sh can be used for uninstallation of Linux* Agents Copy the uninstall-smsagent.sh file from "linuxagent" folder to a local folder in Linux* OS. Run the following commands from the folder where uninstall script is present. chmod +x ./uninstall-smsagent.sh ./uninstall-smsagent.sh The script has to be run with 'root' privilege. 1.6 Trouble-shooting BMC Utility Please refer Release Notes of BMC-Utility under BMC-Util folder. Intel Server Agent : The status of the service can be viwed using "/etc/init.d/intelserveragent status" command.
