The system gauges provide real time feedback of relevant information so you can observe the effects of various changes. This README file contains the latest information for the Intel Desktop Control Center v4.4.0 beta release software application. ====================== 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ====================== --------------------- The Intel Desktop Control Center v4.4.0 supports only the Intel(R) Desktop Board DX58SO. A video graphics card with hardware-based support for Microsoft* DirectX* 10 is highly recommended. CPU overclocking features are only available with Intel(R) Extreme Edition processors. Intel Desktop Control Center v4.4.0 will run on non-Extreme Edition processors, but the CPU overclocking features will not be enabled. Operating System ---------------- Intel Desktop Control Center software should be installed on the Intel(R) Desktop Board DX58SO with one of the following operating systems: - Microsoft Windows* Vista* operating systems (32-bit and 64-bit) for Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise. - Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit and 64-bit) and Home Edition with Service Pack 2 and up. - Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) operating system with Update Rollup 2. Note: If your system has other applications running that could prevent a system reboot, please close those applications before starting an installation to protect you from loss of any unsaved data. Note: The Windows Vista Starter Edition is not supported. Earlier operating system versions of Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, NT, 2000, ME, and Server 2003 are not supported. Note: Computers based on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system also require installation of the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.0 Redistribution Package software or later. If any of these items are missing, SETUP.EXE will automatically download and install them if the PC is connected to the internet. Note: The Intel(R) Desktop Control Center v4.4.0 is not backwards compatible with any previous versions of Intel Desktop Control Center. BIOS Requirements ----------------- Make sure you have BIOS SO3504 or newer installed. If you're not sure what BIOS version is installed, restart the PC and press F2 to enter the BIOS setup. The BIOS version will be displayed. BIOS SO3504 is noted as follows: SOX5810J.86A.3504.2008.xxxx.xxxx. You can download the most recent BIOS from: http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dx58so/ Click on the BIOS Updates link. Display Configuration --------------------- The minimum supported display configuration is 1024x768 pixels with 16-bit color or higher and Normal font size. Available Addressable System Memory ----------------------------------- System resources and hardware (such as PCI and PCI Express*) require physical memory address locations that can reduce available addressable system memory. This could result in a reduction of as much as 1 GB or more of physical addressable memory being available to the operating system and applications, depending on the system configuration and operating system. ============================= 3. INSTALLATION ============================= The Intel Desktop Control Center v4.4.0 supports only the Intel(R) Desktop Board DX58SO. You must be logged in as an administrator before you install/run/uninstall Intel Desktop Control Center To install Intel Desktop Control Center: 1. Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed. BIOS SO2786 is noted as follows: SOX5810J.86A.2786.2008.xxxx.xxxx. If you don't have BIOS SO3504 installed, you can download it here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx (search on "3504") 2. Install the latest build of Intel Desktop Control Center (v4.4.0.x) by double-clicking the IDCCSETUP.EXE file. 3. Once Intel Desktop Control Center is initiated, the XTU service will load and run in the background. 4. Reboot the PC. You are now ready to use the Intel Desktop Control Center. ============================= 4. Known Issues and Solutions ============================= After installing Intel Desktop Control Center 4.4.0, if you encounter issues that are not documented below, please send an email to idccfeedback@intel.com and attach the following file: C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTEL\INTEL(R) DESKTOP CONTROL CENTER\LOGS\IDCC.LOG (for 32-bit OS) C:\PROGRAM FILES(x86)\INTEL\INTEL(R) DESKTOP CONTROL CENTER\LOGS\IDCC.LOG (for 64-bit OS) and include a screen shot of the error message. Please also include your BIOS version, OS version (Windows XP or Windows Vista; 32- or 64-bit), and OS language. - ISSUE: Intel® Desktop Control Center may fail to recover from an auto-tuning run after the application is invoked. The following error message displays: "Application error LoadPerf (Event 3002)." - STATUS: Under investigation - WORKAROUND: 1) Un-install Intel® Desktop Control Center. 2) Install Intel® Desktop Control center. 3) Set up membership in the local Administrators group. 4) To rebuild the list of counters in the registry: - Click Start, expand All Programs, and expand Accessories. - Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. - At the command prompt, type lodctr /r, and then press ENTER. - Start Intel® Desktop Control Center. - ISSUE: During auto tuning, the system reports errors or blue screens. STATUS: This is expected behavior between reboots in auto tuning. - ISSUE: Previous fan settings altered in Intel Desktop Control Center show up as default settings (pressing the D button on the console) when a new version of the application is installed. STATUS: Works as intended. WORKAROUND: First, uninstall Intel Desktop Control Center. Then, manually remove the "diskstore.bin" file that is located in the Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intel\ Extreme Tuning Utility directory. Finally, reinstall the application. - ISSUE: When running an auto tune session using Microsoft Windows* Vista, the system reboots with errors. WORKAROUND: The administrator must disable User Account Control (UAC) for auto tuning to run as intended. - ISSUE: The system becomes inoperable (black screen) during a planned auto tuning reboot. WORKAROUND: The system was pushed too far and is unable to recover. You need to reset the system which may include using the jumper on the desktop board. We recommend manually adjusting settings in smaller increments. - ISSUE: When configured with Microsoft Windows* Vista*, the CPU voltage tooltip displays the Enhanced Intel(R) Speedstep (EIST) setting different from what it is in the BIOS. STATUS: Investigating. - ISSUE: Clearing the temporary folder after installing Intel(R) Desktop Control Center causes the application to stop working at the splash screen. WORKAROUND: Reboot the system and then run Repair from the Control Panel, or uninstall and then reinstall the application. STATUS: Under investigation. - ISSUE: Hardware changes, such as memory type and processor, may invalidate presets, and certain service release updates may not be compatible with presets generated from an older version. WORKAROUND: Only use presets that were created with the same version of Intel Desktop Control Center and with the same hardware configuration. If you wish to change hardware or upgrade to a newer version of the application, document the presets you wish to reuse. - ISSUE: When the Help file is maximized clicking Intel Desktop Control Center on the taskbar causes display anomalies between the application and Help file window. - WORKAROUND: Close the Help file window before clicking Intel Desktop Control Center on the taskbar. - ISSUE: The main console does not fully display when the resolution is reduced to 800x600. WORKAROUND: Use the recommended 1024x768 resolution with 16-bit color or higher and Normal font size. - ISSUE: When large fonts are used, the display is distorted. WORKAROUND: Use the recommended 1024x768 resolution with 16-bit color or higher and Normal font size. - ISSUE: Adding or replacing memory or changing the processor causes a "configuration has changed" error which requests a reboot. WORKAROUND: Some hardware changes, such as adding or replacing memory or changing the processor, require an additional reboot of the system as the previous system settings need to be updated to incorporate the H/W changes. - ISSUE: Changing the Host Clock Frequency (HCF) does not take immediate effect when running CPU-Z. WORKAROUND: When the HCF is changed, an additional reboot is required to load the changes if CPU-Z is or was running. - ISSUE: When the system is connected to a router that is not on a network, installation is slow (about five minutes) and operation response is slow. STATUS: No changes planned. The system can be removed from the router or the router should be connected to a fully working network with Internet access. - ISSUE: When configured with Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit, 4 GB of memory usage shows incorrectly in the Task Manager. STATUS: No changes planned. This is due to the addressable memory limits of 32 bit O/S'es. - ISSUE: Intel Desktop Control Center reports an error and fails to fix the application when IDCCsetup.exe is used to repair a problem. WORKAROUND: Perform a complete uninstall to remove the application and then reinstall Intel Desktop Control Center. - ISSUE: When configured with Microsoft Windows Vista, graphics anomalies are seen on the Intel Desktop Control Center console. STATUS: No changes planned. These are typically background shading issues. - ISSUE: When configured with some add-in graphics cards, anomalies are seen on the Intel Desktop Control Center console. STATUS: No changes planned. These are typically shading issues. ============================= 5.
